Roofing done. Concrete floors for garage poured last Friday. PT stairs for exterior are complete; stairs for interior/garage are complete - although door will have to swing into house, not where I would have liked (into garage landing)... code?

Tim the plumber started rough work in the addition last week and continues thru tomorrow - we've decided to also replace the water heater with a larger (75g) model, since this current (40g) one was around 10 years old. No need for another flood.

Exterior siding work started today. It will be nice to have something to keep the housewrap on - the recent storms kept pulling pieces off.

Contain the rain

Well, there's no shingles yet (aww), but the upper floors and roof are enclosed in plywood, so that ought to keep most of the rain out. Shingling to occur next week - some exterior woodwork remaining to be done today.

We were able to do a looksee-walkthrough of the second floor on Tuesday, and decided to increase the closet area somewhat - and also giving us full-size closet doors - by building out the room corners a few feet, providing kind of an alcove for the bed. Also going with a half-wall at the top of the stairs, to increase the apparent room size. Flow of the room is nicely improved with these changes - places the bed/closets on the "old" house side - so a large nook will be at the top of the stairs, and walking along the wall there will be largely unimpeded.

A few more pictures today - but not a lot to say or see. Walking around inside is tough due to the scaffolding but we are just amazed at the amounts of space we foresee for storage.

The upcoming week looks like good weather and we should have a second floor and roof rafters very soon.

Friday 04 September:
Door frames are in place for downstairs bath, stairs to 2nd floor, stairs to garage.
Some ceiling rafters are up in garage.
Picked up wood for kitchen/dining room job - 3 weeks away, so we have time to come up with the pieces that haven't arrived yet. Installation quote was a mess, lots of errors/overcharges.
Asked Bob to quote change to back stairs - TREX surfaces instead of PTL, so we match with the back deck (with maybe an eye to connecting eventually?).

Friday 04 September:
Ceiling rafters are up over garage, hallway and bathroom.
Hallway and bathroom walls are completely framed.

Wednesday 01 Sep: We got floors! Well, on the hallway and lower bathroom anyway. Size of the bathroom feels OK, though we will probably go with having the washer-dryer against the back of the room - better use of the space in a "skinny" room. Garage space for vehicle in the bay closest to the stairs seems like it will be too tight for the truck, but OK for the car - this one anyway(!)
